The board is automatically scaling any attached image greater than 839 px to 839x. Attached images are put in a frame. External images are not put in a frame and display at 860 px given that the source image is greater than 860. Your image is 1000 px. You attached it. Thus, it is automatically displayed at 839 px. No reason to use manual scale. In fact, the capability to manually scale does not appear to be enabled.
