New Coin Posted - Can we make this a guess the grade? (79-S Rev 78)
*For new coin see page two.
I had the pictures posted already, so do you want to make it a guess the grade?
ICG holder.
(Answered, thanks messydesk)Is the 9 on this Morgan considered closed or open? Thank you for any help.

Re: Is this a closed or open 9
Looks open to me.
Re: Is this a closed or open 9 (79-S Rev 78)
Using open and closed 9 to attribute 79-S Rev. 78 went out in the late 90s when the 79-S book came out. While this is an open 9, it's best to go through the 79-S Rev. 78 pages to see how to attribute this coin.

I don’t have the book and can’t find one for sale. The description on the Vamworld pages uses open and closed 9 as a indicator for partially broken “r” reverses.
The coin looks like a VAM 35, but if it has a open 9, does that make it something else or do you stick with a Vam 35?

The engraved feather under the eagle's right wing looks like either VAM 35 or 39. Check the wheat stalk for the gouge across the kernels, which is shown on the VAM 39 page. This reverse is also used with VAMs 34 and 34A, but those are scarce and almost always circulated.

It has the lines in the wheat stock as a Vam 35. It seems to be lacking the diagonal lines in wing that the 39 is asssociated with.
Thanks for your input and help.

That's VAM 39. See the gouge in the left red circle below (from the VAM 39 page). I guess it goes up to the kernels, not into them.

I'm at 58 too. The small what look like hairline patches in rev between eagles right wing and wreath and also in field behind cap band could details it however, if they are hairline patches.

Nice looking coin, I had the hair lines between the Rt wing and the wreath as counting wheel damage. Have one bagged that looks familiar. In hand is a different look.
