In a day or two I am going to try to put into this message the photos Leroy sent with the letter.

Cool! Is this the one you showed me at FUN? I wish he would have called it VAM 115, instead.

JB -- yes this is the one I showed you at FUN.
I also had JR look at it.
I was hoping for a new VAM but didn't happen.

Good for you. I also have the same situation with 1897 S VAM 16. I got Obv. die 2. Thought it would be a new VAM.

I'm having trouble reading the letter. Is that due to the quality of the scan?

I see that the words on Leroy's letter are hard to read.
Last night I scanned the letter at a higher resolution, but it was over the 1.5MB limit.
I will try some things to get the quality better and stay within the 1.5 MB limit.

Great pictures Lew. Hard work pays off. Surprised the pictures never made it to the page.
Do you have editing privileges, Lew ? The page could use some die 2 PUPs

Lewis,
Do you know if the photo's normal jaw, die chip on E and double one are LVA plate photos? The VAM Book only shows one plate photo (engraved wing feather).

I feel VAMs are going to be somewhat absurd if new die combo's cease to become new VAMs. Obviously it's Leroy's party, and he can do as he pleases, but I can't help but feel that this VAM-11.2 trend is muddying the waters (since it's supremely arbitrary and can go either way and often does). Not to mention I feel it risks making an already technical and somewhat obscure hobby look a bit highfalutin and silly. Again, I know Leroy can do as he pleases. Just my 2 cents.
And congrats on what used to be a new VAM but is now a new die pair! /facepalm

Two different obverse dies. They each are paired with the same reverse. Why not two VAMS? Can anyone explain this? I would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Wayne,
Yes, these are Leroy's photos.
Leroy's photos have his description printed on the bottom of the photo.
