Is this doubling on this 1879-O?
It's only on TES and OF, and at the outer tip of the eagle's left wing – and only the S shows it across the full height of the letter. The stuff on the top of the O is extra strange because it's oblong, and it's not of uniform width above any of the letters.
Any suggestions about that caused it?
Any thoughts about the VAM number?
Any thoughts
@messydesk and
@vampicker ?
Thanks in advance for any help!

It looks pushed and shelf like, so I'd guess this is a form of strike doubling. I'd think this one happened during ejection.
I don't recognize the big gouge in the wing off the top of my head
often the crusher of hopes and dreams

I figured showing the date and the mint mark positions would be a start to whatever VAM it is. The diagonal gouge between the left wing and body was the only thing I noticed while taking a semi-slow look. I'll try again (pretending it's a 1921-P) and see if I can find anything else.

Agree with the very very sweet pictures comment... How DO you get your lighting like this? I've tried a lot with my (multiple) digital scope(s) but can't get the quality you've captured.
Wowzers...

Obverse appears to me to match V 37 . The RTY and the lines in her hair . It has the gouge on the reverse as well sir . What do you think ?

Yes indeed!
After checking the VAM 37 page, it's clear we have a match.
Thank you!
