New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
Many eBay coins ads now say that the seller does not ship to Canada. A great many USA sellers have this note visible in their coins ads. There has been a recent change with eBay Global shipping, now when I see the message that the seller doesn't ship to Canada, I am allowed to message the seller and complain. Previously when there was the message I would be prevented from contacting the seller and asking for the ability to bid.
I bought many coins from the American eBay seller mbarrcoins over the last few years, and he shipped them all to me in Canada and without delay. Now his ad states that he does not ship to Canada, and now I am prevented from bidding on his items. He is complying with the new eBay shipping regulations, which are preventing Canadians from being involved in commerce.
A few days ago I bought a coin from a VAMWorld member (1878s VAM-59 EF-45), I was prevented from buying it on eBay and requested he remove it from eBay and wait for my snail mail payment, which he did. So now he is telling me that he is having problems mailing it to me because the post office and also the couriers no longer ship coins to Canada.
How does it benefit Americans to trade with China, have China manufacture your drugs and computer chips, and then you refuse to even allow Canadians to bid on your used laptops and other used computers? This situation prevents Americans from gaining the top dollar for their auction items. The situation excludes Canadians from participating in commerce, Americans who continue to comply with eBay's prejudicial commercial regulations should be ashamed of themselves for going along with it. Canadians and Americans were supposed to be friends and allies.
Many of you Americans take your holidays in Canada, if you think so highly of Canada and Canadians, then allow us to bid on your items. It really sucks seeing you people drive up here in your new trucks and Cadillacs while being unwilling to send us a used computer or a worn out silver coin.

Wow!
It seems like you're taking the situation as a personal attack by any American that is selling coins.
What you need to do is re-direct your anger at Ebay and the USPS, not the seller. The seller wants nothing more than to make the sale and have a bigger market in which to do so. It's not the seller's fault but you sure seem to make it that way.
And if it really "sucks" as you say, to see Americans in Canada in New trucks , Cadillacs or what have you, then look the other way.
Think about who you should be angry at before taking it out on every and anyone. Just sayin'

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
It appears the majority of Americans coins sellers are complying, and are excluding Canadians from participating in commerce. Now you fling crap at me for pointing out the situation.
Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
It's not crap.
I'm merely stating you're mad at the wrong people.
What's so difficult to realize that??
Your issue is with Ebay and the USPS, NOT the seller who is dying to sell to you.
If anything, you're giving crap to any potential seller.

You as Americans can ship to Canada if you do not participate in eBay's shipping program, all you have to do is set your preferences to allow sales to Canada.

You are the folks being mad at the wrong people. You obviously must be angry at the Canadians when you refuse to sell them your worn out silver coins. Most any American seller reading this post will continue to exclude Canadians from bidding, as they simply do not care.

So then it's not the USPS and EBAY as you stated.
All I can say is that as Americans, the sellers can choose where and whom their hearts desire with no excuse needed.
Again. just sayin'.
Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
Worn out silver coins must be a big thing in Canada for buyers to be arguing about it.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
No, you can set your preferences on eBay to allow sales to Canadians and then you can do your best to try to mail us the coin. Apparently If you try to send the coin with insurance and tracking, you will be prevented from mailing it, as from what I understand they do not want money in the mail.
Before these new regulations were imposed, the great majority of American Morgan sellers in eBay had set their preferences to exclude Canadian buyers. Those who adopted eBay's former Global Shipping Program and agreed to ship the coins to Canada met with little success, as that program charged an extremely great amount of money for shipping to Canada and so the Canadians rarely bid due to these high shipping rates.
I should not be faulted for complaining that the majority of you American coin sellers are refusing to sell and send coins to Canadian collectors. Rather than be irate with me for pointing out that I am being thwarted from participating in commerce, consider setting your preferences to allow Canadian buyers to participate in your sales.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
I'm not irate as I have no horse in this race.
All I'm trying to tell you is if you want to have a slight chance to get coins shipped to you in Canada, ask the sellers politely, don't ask them while waving a large stick at them. As the saying goes, " you get more flies with honey than with vinegar " why anyone would want more flies, I don't know but that's the saying.
Be nice man.

Shouldn't this be in the buy trade sell forum?
I plan to collect VAMs and maybe discover new ones, but until then I'm just here.
Don't forget this is a live and learn hobby have fun with it.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
Not really. It's a discussion about sales and not an actual sale.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
As I pointed out to mbarrcoins today, that over the years I had purchased many coins from him in eBay auctions and the result had been much higher prices from the sales of his coins, for he was willing to sell and ship to Canada. Now he is complying with a new eBay shipping policy which prevents me from bidding and buying. Certainly mbarrcoins made many extra hundreds of dollars in the sales of the coins by allowing me to participate in the bidding.
Again, Americans have bent over backwards to engage in commerce with people in China. The result is now an influx of many thousands of Chinese crossing the Mexican border and entering USA illegally, and the result is also a lack of legitimate drugs and computer chips and as the Americans employed the Chinese to manufacture the items there.
On one hand there is the American politicians who give their nation away to the Chinese, on the other hand is the Americas themselves who care so little about Canadians that they couldn't be bothered to allow them to bid on some used item. Rather than express the slightest degree of shame, you would rather mock me for bringing up the issue.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
I'm guessing this has more to do with Canadian import regulations that eBay or USPS policy. eBay still allows international shipping to most countries.... but I am guessing Canada changed regulations which make if very difficult for eBay and the USPS.
Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
As I live just hours from the Mexican border, I have yet to see ANY Chinese immigrants but I guess you would know being that you live in Canada.
I was not mocking you but whatever floats your boat. I'll end it with my last comment on just being nice to U.S. sellers and the Americans in general if you're wanting to buy coins from them at least.
I wonder if you approach your waiter/waitress or even your surgeon in the same manner. Just be nice bro', eh?
Best of luck to ya'.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
I can still participate in some American eBay auctions, I can still receive some shipments of coins from America, the issue is not so much eBay or USPS or UPS or FedEx regulations, the issue instead is the American sellers who chose not to allow Canadians to participate in their eBay auctions, the issue is the sellers who simply go along with regulations that reduce their freedom and reduce the selling prices of their auctions. The issue is the Americans who do not care that Canadians are excluded from their auctions, the issue is the Americans who care little that they could have received higher prices for their coins if they agreed to ship to Canada. And the result of not caring which nation you do trade with is resulting in the loss of your own nation. Best of luck with that.
Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
Interesting problem. I looked into this and found conflicting information. FedEx shows collectible coins as specifically being prohibited from importation into Canada. Canada Border Services Agency only shows base metal and counterfeit coins as being prohibited. USPS states is silent about collectible coins being restricted, but states that gold, silver and valuables must be sent by insured mail and cannot be sent by Express Mail. Only CBSA can prevent importation of something, and if they have been causing shippers problems by periodically prohibiting coins they should be allowing to be imported, then the shippers will avoid those problems by not allowing anything that might cause the problem. Shipping to an unknown buyer with a falsified customs declaration is just asking for trouble. It also voids insurance that may have been purchased. If eBay allows certain buyers to be whitelisted regardless of where they are, that's a workaround. If they don't, they should. Meanwhile the root cause of the problem seems to be ambiguous instructions from and within CBSA.

Re: New Shipping Regulations Prevents Canadian Commerce
Shipping to Canada is subject to both prohibitions and restrictions. Prohibited items include goods such as alcohol, furs, ammunition, and collectible coins, among other things. Shipping restrictions control—but do not outright prohibit—the shipment of other goods as well. For instance, drugs and medicines can be shipped into Canada, but they must comply with Canadian law.

This thread cracks me up. Play by the rules or go home. Rules change. By the way, don't bring politics into this forum. I am surprised Messy didn't delete this thread.
