Possible 1884 S new VAM
I was checking out an 1884 S dollar and I noticed that it was an s/s filled s. The obverse had a clear 4/4 which didn't match any of the listed VAMs for 1884 s. Is this a new VAM or just one of the others already listed?

Re: Possible 1884 S new VAM
First, welcome to the community (I see this is your first post).
Next, you might be able to see more than your pictures show but I'm not seeing a clear doubling of the 4 that could not be attributed to 'gunk' or potential PMD (postmint damage). The potential S/S is not very clear either but, and again, this could simply be the resolution of the picture.
Is the date on the coin far or very far (can't see the denticles to tell)? Might the lack of other characteristics of the coin leading to a lack of match because the coin is worn?
Any way to get us more (and better) pictures of other major features of the coin so we can help ID the variety? Thankfully there are not many 84Ss to work through. Starting with the date will cut the potential alternatives to weed through in half very quickly.
Again, welcome to the site!

Welcome to the forum . I am a big fan of full coin pictures especially on this date because we are always on the hunt for the "Giggles coin " @...kenny found , JR.s 2017 coin of the year VAM 11a , because it is a unicorn . and an extreme rarity . I'm not sure where you start with your coin without a few pictures not so close as @keilg1 was saying . good luck1

I'm gonna guess VAM 4B , there is also a v13 listed with a die chip in left wreath but no pictures , I guess you check the denticles closer for any possible MPD???

How do you do the @...kenny thing and make it work ? It must be the dots . I wanted to ask him for a picture of the discovery coin? VAM 13 . Is that a thing ? I saw the LVA letter it was very cool !

Sorry Guys, didn't know pics of V13 weren't on board. It is OBV of V8 and Rev of V4B. I have a two day card show in Augusta this weekend. I'll try to get some full coin pics next week...kenny

@ eewe Do you have a clear picture of the denticles below 188 in your date?

Re: Possible 1884 S new VAM
You have either VAM 4B or VAM 13. Look at the denticles below the 18 in the date for VAM 8. If you have a match, it's VAM 13, otherwise VAM 4B.

I can't seem to be able to log in and add pics to 84S V13 page. Perhaps these can be transferred from this one?
