There's no such thing as an unopened roll of 1878 Morgan dollars. I agree that it looks fake. If you bought these recently, return them.

One thing you need to do in addition to returning this is contact the Anti-counterfeiting Task Force. The seller will plead ignorance and refund your money and it'll seem like a one-off mistake. ACEF will keep tabs on this seller and see if they can establish intent, then law enforcement can come down on this seller like a ton of bricks. Fighting counterfeiters is like a game of whack-a-mole, but in that game, some moles do get whacked.

"There's no such thing as an unopened roll of 1878 Morgan dollars. I agree that it looks fake. If you bought these recently, return them." Yes.

If the OP will go to the PCGS forum there is a thread with photos of this series of counterfeits. That might provide additional information. The thread title is: "Current “Popular” Fake Morgans, Slabs and PCGS on-line Certs" and it is currently on page 1 of the message board.

Exhibits all the traits of sand casting
Take a good look at it so you know what it looks like

Last week I had to take my scope to work and show an older gentleman what I had told him was a fake Morgan Dollar in his collection. Coin appeared to be cast in some silver alloy anyway , and was about 1.3 grams light when weighed . Here are some pics a little closer in , IS this sand casting ???? Be prepared its an ugly attempt
Thank you in advance ...
