I have had this 1926 S Peace Dollar in my collection a long time. I would like to assign it a Vam number, but am unable to do so. Below, find digital images of the item. Also below, find descriptions of the item. Trust these may be of help in attributing the item. All comments welcome.

Re: 1926 S Peace Dollar
After seeing your post, I checked my inventory. I found a coin from the same die pair, although a somewhat earlier die state, which I had labeled as "VAM 3" to fill the hole. I did not find these die markers on any other of my coins, and I have a nearly complete 1926S VAM set. BTW, I have idendified about 100 die marriages for 1926S, this one is now one more, thanks for bringing it up.
Holding the coin in hand, the die gouges at 1 & ST are present but not particularly dramatic. The polished/worn area on reverse above the mountains show the rays going all the way to the mountains, but I have to shimmy the coin in the light to see it. From looking at my coin, I would not give it a VAM listing, although a later die state with rays completely separated from mountains, or some other feature of significant die wear/polish might be.
Hope this is helpful,
David

Thank you davidkclose for your analysis & Vam3 attribution. Thanks too colwillys for your reply and request.
I am still a bit mystified by the mintmark. Any suggestions as to what might be going on there?
Best regards,
SRS
