Doing a little deeper dive into 1891 o - VAMs 14, 14a and 20
Looking to see if anyone has an example of VAM 14. Not convinced it exists as the photo on the VAM 14 page (http://www.vamworld.com/wiki/1891-O_VAM-14) is likely a 14A later die state. Looking for any help that anyone can provide before I send anything to LVA. thanks, Jon

Might this be the 1891 O VAM 14 you were wondering about? Noted the faint neck clash, wing-n clash, slanted normal date, and bottom filled o in God. Purchased this as semi-cull and expected it to be 14a once the gunk was removed. Once I got this in hand, I saw no clashed M, no clash from bottom of neckline across motto, and probably no wing-leg gouge. I think that's potentially gunk still in that crevice. I remembered you were looking for a 14-14a-20 coin without certain details.

Be interested to see if this is a straight 14 and not just a worn-down 14A.

I was thinking same thing, and that could certainly be the case. Just didn't see any of the critical attributes.

I see the clash on both sides... 14a.
I'm thinking what Jon is looking for is a pre-clash version.

I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

I see. This does have weak clashed, but none of the other attributes, so I thought it might be of interest in his work. I did a little more work to de-gunk the wing gouge area and took a closeup, and don't think that feature is there either.
Thanks

Appreciate the efforts to help unravel this progression. It looks to me like a worn 14A. This may sound wacky, but when I tilt my head to the right. it looks like I might be able to a hint of the gouge in there, worn down like the other pick up points??? ..... LOL But then I am kind of wacky for studying the series anyway. I will try to dig into it a little more this coming week.... thanks to all, Jon

SSDC shows zero straight 14s registered... I'm honored to own the 14A DC and have a few other ones but these don't help the hunt for what appears to be a very elusive precursor.
