1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?

Just checking. If anyone has a 85-S VAM-6, can you check the reverse upper tail feathers and see if your coin has the same "dots"? They look raised to me which means they are incuse on the die, and could be spaced the same as denticles, i.e., denticle impressions. I might add they are repeatable on several coins and could be passed over for PMD. If youhave one good pics would help.

Nothing from me. I'd simply like to have an 85-S with as much luster and lack of wear as this one appears to have. Tough to find above circulated grades, eh? Oh, wait. I do have one! A CAC NGC64... here's the same area.

Are we sure the several coins aren't multiple appearances of the same coin?

fwiw i checked several 85-s v6 auction appearances in unc with nothing.

it would make sense the coin in the OP is just contact considering how much contact that are of that coin has.

nothing wrong with keeping your eyes peeled for another example but unlikely and to look at the coin in-hand would wrap this up post-haste.

also, all the of denticle clashes/impressions i've seen have been perfectly symmetrical, as they should be and the ones that could appear asymmetrical could be discounted due to more than one clashing/impression instance.

Thanks to all for the replies. I appreciate putting this to bed so quickly. To JB's point, apparently multiple appearances of the same coin is what got me. Must be occluded gas bubbles in the planchet. But regardless, your replies kept me from an even wilder goose chase.

do you have that coin in-hand?

the odds of those being raise are pretty small. i don't know how much you know about vams/coins/errors etc but i think there is a STRONG chance the hits just pushed up the metal a bit. that kind of thing has been posted here and sometimes it can appear very deceptive. i've seen similar things posted on other forums as well.

if you were ever so inclined, if you do own that coin and didn't just see it online, please take some pics, if you can, at some angles low, high, left and right. that kinda thing. it should become apparent what it is and what it is not.

if not, no biggie. i just like to run things down to certainty if possible.

numismatically, does that mean you see things raised that are lowered and visa versa? should make coins quite interested!

You have that correct. Usually happens on Dennis' 21 photos, and that is real, not a cut. For some reason his photos, sometimes, makes my brain wacko. But he does take great photos.

I remember back when @DHalladay used to take LFCP's. They are some of the best.
