How Morgan Dollars Became Indian Ruppees
Being a history nerd and a collector of Morgan Dollars, it has come together in this article. I learned a little bit of interesting history today. We now know where much of the silver went after the Pittman Act of 1918.

Re: How Morgan Dollars Became Indian Ruppees
I had published a long article titled "A Brief History of the Morgan Dollar' that was hosted by the ANACS site for years. Sadly, it was lost when the site was changed a few years ago. Some of you may remember reading it. The story about using melted Morgans to coin rupees was part of it.

Fascinating to learn this!
I knew the U.S. sold a LOT of silver to Britain during WWI for geopolitical reasons in India, but did not know it was used to make coins. We almost need to consider the 1919 Rupee for honorary status in the Morgan Dollar set.

When in doubt... don't.

Thank you for posting.
Interesting read.
Makes me wish that I had been collecting coins when I went to India. I would have brought one back.
