1923-D VAM-1AH2 LDS or H3?

Post by keilg1 » Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:42 am

Definitely out of my element and needing guidance @davidkclose if you don't mind.

Picked up what I believe is a 1AH2 but this looks like a significantly later die stage based on the rather pronounced break on the righthand side of the coin - in addition to the break above the IN.

Is this simply a LDS 1AH2?

Kinda wish the break went towards the rim and not inward as this might have produced a massive cud up to the Y had it been given time to really shatter...

Thanks in advance. Still not converting to the dark side but I do see the appeal. ;)

Nice find and nice photos! Sure looks like a 1AH2 to me. I have one of these and everything matches up perfectly. Yours does look a bit more advanced die state than mine but not much. Maybe the Doc can see something different than what I see. Again, nice find and great pics! :D

I would call this VAM 1AH2, there is not enough on it to justify another subvariety listing. On lower grade coins, a die crack on a coin of the same die state will appear larger that the same on a higher grade coin.
See page on VAM 1C, EDS vs LDS.
In any case, nice pickup! There are still good coins out there, keep looking!

I'll keep loving the dark side from a distance because I value what little sanity I have left within my head. Not much to spare so I need to mete it out carefully. Peace dollar varieties are MINDBLOWINGLY vast...

Thanks for your help. A 1AH2 she be.
