1885-S conundrum
1885-S VAM-1 (1885-S VAM-1A), 1885-S VAM-2 (1885-S VAM-2A) & 1885-S VAM-7 (1885-S VAM-7A) are credited with an EDS and LDS (seen in parentheses). Easy enough. However - they all are credited with the exact same reverse die. Would it not stand to reason that only one of these would have both the EDS & LDS? We (I) know that the 1885-S VAM-7 (RPD) exists with both EDS and LDS (I have both in my own greedy little paws at this very moment). We (I) also know that the 1885-S VAM-2A exists (I also have one of them). Personally, I do not believe that the VAM-1 or VAM-1A really exist at all. Would it not be reasonable to conclude that the 1885-S VAM-2 cannot exist? Same with the 1885-S VAM-1A?? I look forward to seeing all ya all's thoughts!
Re: 1885-S conundrum
I'm going to guess that only 7, 7A and 2A exist, although VAM 1A could exist. Don't forget about VAM 4A, which is probably a different die pair from VAM 4.
I'm also going to guess that there's a package labeled "1885-S conundrum" on its way to me soon.
