1899 O VAM 30 with clashing?

Post by ShamShield » Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:46 pm

When looking at the 1899 O the coin matches up with the VAM 30 minus this coin has alot of clashing, is it a 30 or am I overlooking another?

Alot of polishing lines in the cotton and whole coin.

Start with mint mark and date. VAM 30 has a repunched date with large spread, so that's pretty much your "one and done" feature, and I think I see it in your photos. The clashes you show are also on both full-coin pictures on the VAM 30 page. As there is no letter transfer, they aren't mentioned in the specification. Die cracks are a like a fingerprint of the die, and are used to make sure your attribution is accurate.

Getting hooked on clashed Morgans is as good as loving meat & potatoes for dinner.
So exciting to view various dates & MM which super bold clashings that really make coin
stand out from typical strikes. Add to that the bold die cracks on many and you have a
superior looking coin.

Didn't look so hard at the full coin photos but I do see them now. The die cracks are in the same places but not as pronounced as the close up photos. Clashing coins are becoming my priority...i agree to mear and poatoes all the nuances and overall appearances are just addicting.
