ANACS re-holder back

Post by vamnuke » Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:53 pm

Sent 4 coins in for re-holder; one modern gold buffalo $5 in a cracked holder; two old soapbox coins with incorrect VAM attribution; my last discovery coin to get proper attribution I guess I thought all would cross as-is. Nope. Lesson learned.

2008-W gold buffalo OLD SP-70 / NEW SP70
1878 OLD VAM 121 MS 62PL (soapbox) / NEW VAM 142 MS 61PL (still only PL out there to the best of my knowledge)
1878-S OLD VAM 61 obv PL (soapbox) / NEW VAM 102 obv PL
1878-S OLD unlisted obv with 1i reverse VG-8 (yellow holder) / NEW VAM 115 Discovery PC VG8 DETAILS CLEANED; lost top in pop honors too…

So 2/4 downgraded, one with a net grade and down several points in my sets.

Oh well…

The VAM 115 should not have downgraded from one yellow holder to another. That's worth an email to Paul and a review. The same senior grader was OK with this as a straight VG08 when it went thru before.

Custom labels like the description I used before this obverse got listed do not and will not appear in the ANACS population

Hum ?? Has something at Anacs changed???

I have submitted many for re holder from sm wht old holders, of which always
came back same grade and in Super cool BLUE holders
But this last time some re holders came back (not in blue holders i love) but rather
regular yellow holders. I was quite dis appointed as IMHO coinslook better in the Blue
slabs.

So one better be damm careful re holdering old sm wht holders, as many are truly
not PL or Dmpl as stated on sm old wht holders. I have stayed away from purchasing
sm wht PL/ especially DMPL holdered Morgans, as many are not as slabbed.
If Anacs re grades these upon re holder submission, what a skinning the paying
submitter takes financially. Bitter/sweet as these were actually never say PL/DMPL
and ANACS seems should pony up money differences IMHO, but good luck with that,
as thats very unlikely, and would probally bankrupt Anacs.
Those sm wht old Anacs holers Non Mirrored actually, are well known within industry
and buyers as a real problem, which helped Anacs to become # 3 in grading rank over
yrs which is a rotton shame. Currently my guess is that Anacs is trying to fix the problem
with re grading crossovers, but not considering poor old submitter. guess buyer beware
as always applies big big time

Would love for JR to chime in on this one- knowing this happened yrs ago and no
reflection on current graders or management. A screw up tha costs Anacs big time

Re: ANACS re-holder back; UPDATE! Thanks ANACS!

All's well. The 115 "cleaned" was in error; coin is on the way back as original VG-8! Great customer service from ANACS; apologized; very quick turnaround and 2-free gradings due to postage cost. So I sent in 2 21-Ps I had in the drawer that I had gotten cheap; those 2 are graded MS 62 and MS 63.

Try getting customer service from PCGS or NGC on some issue like this, you can just
forget it, as to po;itical & idiotic to boot. IMHO X 100 lol
