I had bought this 1878 CC, from a late night coin sales TV show,
from SIMMS or Mount Vernon a LONG time ago, that was advertised
as unc.
I sent it to ICG, with some other coins to be graded and as you
can see it was NOT unc. Oh well!
After I found Vamworld and all of the great info and pictures, of all
of the dates and vams, I found the 1878 CC vam 19A, with the die break
running the R in AMERICA and on into the wreath too.
I think it is a vam 19B, but I also saw on the vam page
(Wide CC With Dot, Die Break R )
Is my 1878 CC a vam 19B and if so, where is the dot?
My 1878 CC has no Die break from rim past R into LI., for the vam 19A.
I didn't see on the vam 19B page, where they said the dot was.
Can someone please tell me where to look for that dot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Bert

Re: 1878 CC vam 19B question
The 'dot' is lame - it's the fill inside the mintmark's first C. You have a VAM 19B. It will not have the obverse break of VAM 19A as it is a different obverse die.
often the crusher of hopes and dreams
Re: 1878 CC vam 19B question
yep= Dot inside 1st C mintmark clearly visable in your pic
ICG tpg service= I have a coin friend that uses ICG exclusively as
his TPG service, for yrs now, to my amazement, as they are not cheap
and their slabs are not to well received in general
My guess is he buys raw only and receives 1 grade higher than other
3 top TPG would assign, thus makes it all worth while financially for him
on re sale. Most buyers downgrade ICG however so i wonder if his plan
really still works today ?

Re: 1878 CC vam 19B question
Thank you JR, I did notice, that the two ends, on the first C mint mark, seemed to be touching or came together, but I would never have guessed, that is where the dot was, that they said was on the coin.
Thank You Scott, way back then, I think I sent some coins, to ICG to be graded, because they were running a special.
I had no idea on what the grading practices were or which were the best.
Back then ANACS had the small slabs, which I liked. and had several graded by them
