1887 VAM-12a with extra wreath berry

Post by jtlee321 » Mon Aug 29, 2022 2:47 am

Has anyone noticed this die chip in the wreath on the 1887 V12a? I was just looking over my new purchase today and I don't see it as notated on the main 21a page. Is it possible this is a new discovery? I know this is a common but popular VAM.

Here are some images.

Not a VAM I had ever looked at closely, but really like the look of it. It does appear to be a later die state than the full coin photos of VAM 12a (die crack above bonnet) Thanks for posting it

Can you post a closeup of the die break
This die stage may actually qualify for a new vam 12B?!

This is the best I can do at the moment with my setup.

I did see a slightly early chip on the last Heritage Link on the 12a page. The 17th coin shows some of this chip forming.

I would consider this to be a listable die break on the wreath.

The toning got my eye as well. It looks like it was a crackout from an old NGC holder. It just has that look.
