- Met up with a lot of VAM folk, including Ash and entourage, John C, John R, Brent, Jim L, Doc and his wife, Brian, Chris
- Larry Briggs was walking and hasn't had medical disasters to share with me since FUN
- Met a new (to me) VAM collector who showed me a coin that had all of us doing incredulous double-takes
- Free booze and snacks Thursday afternoon at Stack's/Bowers reception (thanks for the ticket, Ash)
- Good meals after the show Thursday and Friday, validated parking for dessert
- The only silver dollar I bought was dated 1744
- Slipped a bit in the NGC grading contest, tying for 9th
- Chatted with Ian at GC about VSS in their auctions
- Fogie's new microscope is pretty cool.

Where you able to look at the 1879S rev 78 VAM 96 compare it to the 43 ? Just wondering if that happened at the Show or not ? Just really interested in if its going to come back or going to be a 43A or Not enough to be a new VAM ? I know your busy but thought I would ask .
Many Thanks
John

Re: Short ANA Report
I saw the images of your 1744 pick. Very very nice! One thing I was wondering is did you meet up with Skip and show him the EDS VAM 3, 4, and 5?

Re: Short ANA Report
Skip doesn't do the ANA show. ICG hasn't gone since they got relegated to the back of the bourse one year.

Re: Short ANA Report
Didn't get a chance to do this. John R might be able to comment on these coins further.iceman wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 10:11 pmMessy Desk

Re: Short ANA Report
I had an example of VAM 43 with me. Never ended up talking about it. Maybe I'll get to see the coin in question at the Labor Day show.

Re: Short ANA Report
I picked a couple of pieces up. Traded a 78-CC GSA for a nice example of the 03-O VAM 22 and bought an example of the 77-S Trade Dollar Coxe-4. If you've never seen one, it's worth looking it up and then looking for it. I bought it straight from John, so unapologetic cheating. I also bought a Washington medal from 1893 with the Trenton Battle Monument reverse. It's unsigned, but really looks like Morgan's work.

Re: Short ANA Report
Forgot to give you the Matte Proof Lincoln book, JB, that I brought to the show. Will bring it to FUN. It's just a small booklet.
Was great to reconnect with VAM friends and enjoy some good VAM discussion and viewing (without getting sucked back in). Showed off (and sold even) some cool Trade dollars.
Except for the book thing and hitting Lou Malnati's, I got done pretty much the things I had planned for the show.
- Picked up five 2022-W Silver Eagles from the Mint and flipped them to PCGS to get graded and show tagged. They were supposed to have the 2022-S, but went with what was available.
- Did a show grade of my 1798 BB-110/B-16 Bust Dollar. Second terminal die state known with the cud. I expected F Details. Got VG Details from PCGS. No major discrepancy. (I'll call it VG10 Details in my head.)
- Picked another early dollar. Thought it was my third BB-110 pick. That was the reverse, but was a BB-113/B-27 EDS, which I didn't have. Was an excellent deal too for NGC XF Details.
- Got 4 more Seated dollars to send to Carr as host coins. A bit higher grade and costlier than I wanted, because others doing the same thing had the time to beat me to the culls.
- Dropped off my ANACS submission in time, though none were coins acquired at the show. I did hold out hope of adding one or two. Nothing raw caught my eye. Will now have the entire Poarch Creek silver dollar set in graded holders. (Two more proofs left for the Shawnee set.)
- Got a Carr cancelled restrike (already holdered too) that I didn't have, as a trade with Ash.
- Structured a trade deal with a big dealer for a major Flowing Hair dollar rarity but passed. Might do it at Long Beach in 6 weeks.
- Gave the FUN folks our table application for the January show, saving on a postage stamp. Yeah, I am that cheap sometimes.
- Picked up two ANACS orders they brought to the show. (Dropped off at the San Diego show in July.) Didn't pick up 3 PCGS orders they have been sitting on since early May.
- Apparently, I didn't get Covid from the air travel and the show bourse. N95 masks except for eating and sleeping.

Re: Short ANA Report
They will be running my stickers in their auctions now. Ian had contacted me a couple weeks ago to discuss. They'll also be accepting consignments for variety attribution that will come to me much as they accept raw coin consignments that will be sent to grading services.

Re: Short ANA Report
Great news John!
But I hope a pipeline of VSS submissions from G.C. doesn't wind up totally swamping you.

When in doubt... don't.
Re: Short ANA Report
Me, too. Might need to give myself a raise if that happens.

That's very interesting, How does it work? Coin gets graded first or sent to you first for attribution and the TPG attaches it?
I would think if TPG attaches...you definitely deserve a raise.
I'm very happy for you and all of us here that the recognition you deserve is finally accepted by GC!

Re: Short ANA Report
Certified coins get sent to GC, they send me a batch to attribute. There'll be an option on their submission forms for it. I suppose if they want both TPG certification and my attribution, that could be an option, but I assume they're going to keep things simple to start with and only accept certified coins to send me.
