Help with 1882 S Gouge in "D"
Please pardon the pictures, I have NOT mastered getting good images but I'm working on it lol
I searched the 1882 S listing and cant find anything with a die gouge in the D of Dollar. I still have trouble seeing the doubling sometimes so I'm not sure since almost all of them say double something so I was wondering if I'm missing something on this coin. I'm guessing the gouge would be a die marker maybe but I cant find anything on this.
Any thoughts??

Re: Help with 1882 S Gouge in "D"
Looks like a struck thru error to me.
Re: Help with 1882 S Gouge in "D"
I never thought of that, hummmm
Re: Help with 1882 S Gouge in "D"
It kind of looks raised, is a strike thru raised or depressed. Geez Im struggling with Vams, strike thru errors I know NOTHING about. Are they common?

Ha, I actually thought of that at first but smartly decided against it lol
I cant tell if it is raised or sunken but if I were forced to pick one, I want to say raised. There is zero indication on out side of D, it is completely retained inside the D if that helps

Also the MM. when I look at it straight on, the top loop looks full, but if I look at it upside down, it looks empty. Almost like its on an angle or concave curve inside lower half of the loop.

Look sunken or recessed to me.I cant tell if it is raised or sunken but if I were forced to pick one, I want to say raised.
Struck-thru is unique and can be any shape, size, etc. There is zero indication on out side of D, it is completely retained inside the D if that helps
