Hello All
I have found a 1887 s Morgan in my collection that has a Reverse Planchet Error! I have looked thru the VAM's but couldn't find anything close to it. Can someone with a little bit more knowledge maybe shine some lite on this?
i have attached some pictures.

Re: 1887 s Reverse Planchet Error!
Welcome to VAMWorld ! Many folks are confused about what constitutes an error or a variety (VAM).
An error is a planchet, die, or strike mishap. A variety is a design change on the die itself. The reverse of this 1887 S shows a defective planchet error, specifically, a lamination. Pressure from the strike shifted this attached flap of coin metal toward the area of least resistance..
Knowledge of the minting process is necessary to evaluate mint errors and/or varieties.

Kinda cool. It's an error of a lamination at the edge. It's not tied to a specific die pair, so it wouldn't have a VAM number for this feature.
Taking a little time and pinning down the difference between errors and varieties can save you a considerable amount of aggravation and time.
