Maybe OT - Coin Shows

Post by alefzero » Tue Apr 26, 2022 10:47 pm

I had stopped doing this after the February 2020 Long Beach show due to the pandemic shutting things down. But since the shows are pretty much back to regular programming, I would like to see us maintain a reasonably robust listing of upcoming coin shows. I do this on the SSDC Registry, so it is not a public thing. CoinZip is a good public one. I only put up the Denver show for next week, as a couple of us are setting up there. But will try to add more as time goes on and others with admin privs can also do that. It is a good way for us to congregate, do meals and show-and-tells. That can all be a very rewarding part of collecting VAMs and coins more broadly. I'll attach a screen shot. The button is above Site Statists in the General group in the left navigation pane. The number in parentheses on the button indicates the current number of registered events.

I need to fix the weather plug-in. Says Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. No, we are not setting up in a war zone. They changed something since it was last used a couple years ago.

Add the Central States one for this Thursday-Saturday.

Thursday 10-7, Friday 10-6, Saturday 10-4. Admission $5/day, $10/3-days. Free parking. Something like 700 restaurants within about 5 miles.

I did put CSNS right after than and a small Cowtown one, since I heard one of our VAM folks might be there.

Changed the weather widget. Looks like it is really stable now.

Funny you should mention that. The sirens went off about 45 minutes after the official end of the CSNS show.

It was in the land of "Oz" yesterday. A few places hit here in Kansas, Andover hit the worst. We had a 11 mile twister track end about 25 miles west of my place and another touch down about 10 miles due North of here.

The Andover, KS drone video of an EF-3 ripping through part of town should be required viewing for anyone considering moving to the tornado belt. Every school kid should see how important having a tornado shelter is in that region. (Along with stronger building codes.)

My brother is a teacher in St. Paul and has taught refugee children "How to Live Here 101" for several years. Most are from parts of the world where there are no tornados, so in addition to explaining how a tornado drill works, he had to explain what a tornado was. They caught on fast with the help of YouTube.

I know we have at least a couple of VAMmers in the Wichita area (Andover is basically a suburb) Hope they didn't have any issues from the storm....

i had thought of going to denver but considering all that i have been through in the last few months, i think i will take it easy. i killed myself last year doing 68 shows because my wife kept saying that i had to do more shows, more shows, more shows(for the last 5-6 years)! then she left me 3/25. she told me she was leaving me a few days before christmas and i thought it was all bluster. we got along better and better, but in the end, she sold the house, and left me. told me that she was keeping the house, and i could keep my coin business. it has been a crushing loss. my country home, business location, my wife, my church family, and had to move far away after a condo deal fell through.
