Post by colwillys » Mon Apr 18, 2022 8:32 pm

Looking for some help on this 1923-P .. It is over polished OBV Liberty and Fields all over
the whole coin . pitted rays polished smooth but rust chips still stand out . The REV has
die file lines all over the place . NO clashing . Very nice MS coin . Maybe a new one for
our Dr.

I have seen quite a few "file lines" varieties in 1922 & 1923. Given that there are so many, and some of these are a die state of other varieties, I would want to hold off on listing any for now.
I don't want to see these become as some of the "scribble lines" varieties in Morgans, being a huge number & difficult to attribute. At some point later I would reconsider this position.

The fine lines occur during minor die repair and resurfacing. This can happen over the full raised die surface (the table) or in small areas. It is likely a "bottomless pit" to try to record/describe these things, as previous poster indicated.
