Hi all! I am fairly certain my 1883-O is VAM 12. Just wanted to check with you all to confirm that it is not another "O set left" VAM. I'll attach some pictures below.
I am not seeing any doubling in the ear which is giving me some trouble.
I might be barely seeing a bulge to the right of the wreath bow, but do not see the possible diagonal line coming from beneath it over the mintmark.
The date and mintmark seem to match perfectly, and there is a dot to the left of the hair curl by the neck.
1883-O VAM 12 Confirmation?

Re: 1883-O VAM 12 Confirmation?
Yes this does appear to be a VAM 12. The dot is hard to see on your picture of obverse. This VAM does not have a lot to go by. The polish lines headed southeast from the hair to the earlobe and the stage of the broken lower loop of the 3 appear correct. The mm placement appears correct.
This is an interesting VAM. The few that I have, changes occur in places I normally look. Your picture of the mint mark appears to show a bit more polishing in the lower loop. For a minute I thought of a few of the other 83-O VAMs that have this.

I agree with V12. Looks just like mine.

Thank you for your comment! And yes the dot was hard to capture with my setup.raynat3 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:06 amYes this does appear to be a VAM 12. Your comment on the changes over time make me wonder, is there a place that contains photos of multiple coins for each VAM? One central database, as opposed to 1881o.com for instance.
