There are definitely several disjoint worlds of collectors. Those crying doom and gloom tend to be unaware of this.

I was just happy to see someone write something positive about the hobby. Maybe this newest generation will be different and get back to some of the basics of life.

I enjoyed the article, especially the depiction of the Morgan Dollar.
I do question the statement that coin collecting is not a good investment.
It requires some study and understanding, but it as lucrative as many other fields of investment.

Coins are not as liquid as traditional investments and the buy-sell spreads are much higher. It's also very easy for a new collector/investor to get scammed into paying too much for an inferior coin.

The scamming angle is for sure a problem and I think often causes us to lose potential collectors early on. Like the TPGs or not, they can be a buffer for new collectors.
