1900-O Vam 29 attribution and value

Post by swheriot » Wed Dec 01, 2021 6:41 pm

I have a 1900-O Vam 29. ANACs has graded only 4 with this example being the highest graded at MS62. The Vam 29A of this date (Top 100) is listed on the PCGS price guide at a retail of $2500 in 62. Anyone guess what would the price range would be on this Vam 29 example?
Also, from looking at the pic, is this a die crack or die break? And so is this coin correctly attributed as a 29 or is it a 29A?
Thanks, Steve

I would say this is not a vam 29.
Die crack is a vam 35
My opinion

I agree VAM-35 obverse crack.
Please show the reverse.
29 and 35 have different mm locations.

Unfortunately, it is not a VAM 29 or a VAM 29A.

It is the evil mimic, either a VAM 35 or VAM 35A depending on whether a clashed 'n' is present for the 35A.

The VAM 29 and 29A are normal dates and yours is a near date.
The VAM 29A die break goes into the denticles at the neck point and yours goes past that.

The rule of thumb I have relied upon for 20+ years... and it hasn't been wrong yet... is if the coin is any Mint State grade it's VAM 35.
When in doubt... don't.

I've got the 1900-O Vam 29a PCGS MS62.
I think it's the only MS AOH.
I will try and post pictures later.

That piece is currently unclaimed and the cert lookup says it is not attributed on the holder - for what it's worth
