PCGS 2021 pops keep going up

Post by DHalladay » Mon Oct 25, 2021 8:35 pm

Guess what? PCGS has already graded almost 300 of the new Morgan and Peace dollars, but only 5 of the 6 different coins. The S Mint Morgan is not showing any yet. The coins are listed in the Pop. Report as "Modern Silver and Clad Commemoratives". Here's the real shocker: every coin put into a holder so far has been MS70. :o

Not sure they offer a minimum grade of 70, but maybe they do now. If there are no (or very few) 69s in the bunch, the bigger dealers moving a lot of these are going to be pretty upset, since 70 will carry no premium.

Getting a 68 or 69 might might be an invitation to crack out and pocket it down to a VF or lower for $85 (plus grading fees) fun.

If you open them up, those graded are all Advanced Release. (I looked to see if they were doing them as First Strikes.) What do you make of that? A special thing for the grading service?

The total is now over 3,200, all 6 types of coins have gone through the pipeline... and there is still nothing but MS70s:

Got my O privies yesterday. Kind of underwhelmed. The letters look too much like modern coins (rounded off) and lack the "blockiness" of the originals. Satiny finish has nothing on the original as well. I may submit a set to PCGS and sell the extras I have. I MAY feel differently about the Peace Dollar, but I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed (at least in the Os I received yesterday).
I swear, someday I will learn how to grade Peace Dollars!

FYI- NGC just updated cut-off date to Nov 18 for submission if anyone is going that path

Dennis I wonder how that’s possible. Of the 9 coins I have received the best one is maybe A 69 ? All have marks . Shoot my 1880 S MS-65 is a lot cleaner than both my D’s I got. I have been hearing so much of the same on forums , Facebook and conversations. I really wonder if someone at the mint is hand picking the nice ones to send to some of these big sellers . If that’s the case I would be furious .

Strictly a bulk seller game at this point. Gotta push the 70's at grossly inflated prices before you drop a single 69 at a lower but still grossly inflated price. Coming soon to a TV near you.....
