ID help 1889 P

Post by OriginalAtog » Sun Jul 25, 2021 7:21 am

I am new to coin collecting and have picked up a few Mrogans. I am trying to learn all I can. I have this 1889 that has what looks like doubling in the ear similar to those listed on the wiki. Problem is I can't figure out which one it is if it even is any. Please help me out. Thanks!!!

Hi! Welcome to the forum & the madness!!...

To me, looks like you might have a near slanted date. Look at VAM 27 & then maybe VAM 33. Not much else on your Morgan stands out, so you may need to use secondary Pups(Pick up points)...kenny

Thanks! It does have the little notch on the first 8 in the date. It looked more of a normal date to me, but again still new at this. Looking at it now It seems to closely match VAM 24. It looks like it has a die chip in the G of God. And the full picture of the coin for VAM 24 has the same die chip it appears. But the date doesn't seem to match completely. Maybe a later die state? ... 9-P_VAM-24

Either way the next closest was VAM 36, IMO.
