having fun with CAC

Post by DHalladay » Wed Jun 02, 2021 12:22 am

Just got back what will likely be my last-ever submission to CAC. I was warned that they've been super-crazy tight lately, but my results were still a shock: Just 10 out of 40 got stickers, the worst I have ever had by far. The only ones that were anointed and blessed were:

1909-S VDB Lincoln PCGS AU55
1955/55 Lincoln PCGS AU58
1937-D 3 Legs Buffalo PCGS F12
1942/1-D Mercury PCGS XF45
1878-P Morgan VAM 44 PCGS VF30
1893-S Morgan VAM 1 PCGS VG10
1895-S Morgan VAM 1A PCGS VF30
1921-P Morgan VAM 1BQ PCGS MS63PL
1921-P Morgan VAM 25A PCGS MS65

And then there was this little gem, just to see if I could have some twisted fun

When in doubt... don't.

I think you need just one more sticker on the 00-O. ;)

I'd wager the CAC people weren't fooled. Have they stickered other Good 4 00-O slabs?

No, there's only 1 in Good-04.
If I'm reading their pop report right, it looks like there are 4 in Poor-01. Then comes my G4, then one VG10, one VF30, and then a total of 14 other circs. in grades up to AU58.

You suspect some of those could also be counterfeits?
When in doubt... don't.

I get the Poor-01 pieces, there's a demand. But why else would anyone care about a CAC sticker on a lower grade circ common date dollar? A 29A might be worth a sticker in the AU range, but that's about it.
There's marketability for a Micro O in a holder, so I wouldn't be at all surprised at CAC being willing to guarantee a market

I'm sure John Albanese will support his current bid on a 1900-O Morgan in G4 for that coin.

gratz on the beans you did get.

as far as that, umm, oo-o, kudos sir, kudos.

i could see most of the family being overlooked as you really have to know what you are doing to spot them, especially in lower grades but that one. i can't get my brain to accept they don't know about those although i've seen them in newer tpg holders over the years. at the very least, you'd think they'd presume they are scratches.

that is a centerpiece coin in your collection if ever i've seen one.

Thank you!
Actually, the centerpiece distinction is a tie that goes to my 1900-O VAM 5 Micro-O PCGS F12 and 1902-O VAM 3 Micro-O PCGS VG10... both of which also have CAC stickers.

I forgot what my last order was but it was awful. I think i got 3 out of 12. Most of the others were chosen by someone else for inclusion but wow were they tight. Never had an order below 70%.

They have most definitely been a little tougher lately, but they liked my 1900 O as well 👍 I'll have to check to see if I have a significant variety.
