what is this coin worth?
A couple more zeroes than what he paid.

(Note to nitpickers: This question is a good one in the context of this find, is not a cold "what's this worth" question, and the power of knowledge would be lost if the question had been posted in the WIW forum, so I'm allowing it.)
I will have to look harder at 1889 P's haha , this one looks cleaned by the pics to me but sounds like a nice way to make 2020 a great year.

When you look at the reverse of this VAM and see just a faint clash to the N of IN one realizes that there is no way this reverse die was the one used for the double clash event on the obverse. There are no clash marks on any of the wreaths and a single clash to the N of IN could not have created the depth seen on the obverse. Think the reverse die used for the double clash event was destroyed on the second clash. See photos below.

How strangely fortuitous this find is too... what a coincidence that this is found the same time @fogie gets the Leroy Supplements and added the 7A/B/C work @78-sLongnock @messydesk and I (with an honorable mention to @dave700x) did in linking it to the 23A. Amazing.

I don’t think this specimen has been cleaned. There is a fair amount of toning on it and some rubs, but I will find out soon enough as it is on it’s way to PCGS.

Thanks Mitch. The shop has a lot of 1889-P's come in and I can't tell you how many I have looked at, but I never ever thought a VAM-23A would come in. I am still having a hard time believing it.

Chris you are so right about the work. I just update the pages a couple of days ago. Do you know if any of the work is written down and if anyone has the old VAM-7, VAM-7A and VAM-7B. I sure would like the chance to look at them because the reverse die used on my 23A just does not match up with the clashes on the obverse.

Once the COVID restrictions are lifted, The the 1889 Vam 23A, Vam 7, Vam 7A, Vam 7B and Vam 7C pieces are in place in Ohio for LVA to view them in His hand.
All of the pieces were Put in place in Jan 2020 after the FUN show 2020.
The delay occurred as LVA was in the middle of his updates and then the virus hit.
Chris Simpson and I gave a presentation at the Jan 10th 2020 Vam Thing XVII Fun Show regarding All these Vams: 1889 Vam 23A and all
The 1899 Vam 7’s.
“Life Beyond 1889 Vam 23A Not the End of the World as We Know It”
I hope the video of this presentation can be uploaded into the library soon.

Chris Simpson, John Baumgart, John Roberts and I have been on this hunt since 3/28/19.
LVA saw some of the pieces Q 4 2019 but wanted To see addition pieces before finalizing the
His decision to kill All the 1889 Vam 7’s And replacing them with Vam 23B, C, And D.
This is why the LVA put “ Tentative” label on them in the 2020 supplement.

Sounds like you have been working on the reverse die for the 23A. Please share once LVA is done.

Could you do that? I am very interested to see the reverse and on the obverse the neck and back of the cap of your coin.
