Yet another medal by Morgan
Showed up in today's mail. This one was done in 1875 for the 80th birthday of author Thomas Carlyle. BHM-3006, Eimer-1648.
as plain as it gets other than the portrait, but that is in serious relief and finely detailed.

With all respect, I hope you have considered Verdi-Care and/or Coin Care for that business under the chin.

Haven't done any conservation yet beyond a light touch with a camel hair brush. I'll probably see if any of the spotting will lessen from a little xylol. I'm highly reluctant to use any oil based solvent around the spots as the surfaces are otherwise VERY original.

It's several hundred as far as I can tell. There's a listing of his American works in ' The Private Sketchbook of George T. Morgan' by Karen Lee. There are long runs of one or both faces of medals for the Assay Commission, Indian Peace, Presidential Inaugural, Secretary of the Treasury, Mint Director, and Exhibitions, etc. And Lee's work doesn't attempt to cover his British work.JohnGoldsmith wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 2:27 amI meant do you know how many medal types did Morgan make?

Great medal. Love the level of detail on the portrait.
