1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
I have the coin on my desk today. The LDS of VAM 70 got listed as 70A. The discovery piece is marginally PL.
We could use a new page set up.

Wow...Anything new in the 78-P is a big deal to me. Congratulations on that find and new attribution. The reverse die breaks are so cool, I can just imagine the die giving away at any moment after this strike.

This listing 70A is called EDS by LVA. Vampicker says LDS. Which is it ?
Stage 3 TERMINAL DIE STATE SILVER DOLLAR EXPLORER
Re: 1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
I looked at the VAM 70 page and we seem to have a couple of examples up that aren't as cracked as this. If this is the EDS, then they all qualify as 70A. Am I wrong?

Very Nice JR., Congrats!!! Here's some pics from an example I have. Cracked around the whole circumference as you said and little die breaks btw most of the reverse letters !!!! Check out the break btw "E,D" of UNITED and "A,M" of AMERICA!!!!

But will check what I have in the box...
Re: 1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
It appears my PCGS 62PL is a 70A. Interesting.
Re: 1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
Brent was updating the Registry. I augmented the effort to get all the right sets updated to include it. It should be fully and properly represented now.
Re: 1878 VAM 70A - new stage listing
My DMPL example has those breaks.
I also have a non-prooflike, later die state example where the breaks are slightly stronger and thicker. Hmmmm.
It seems unwise to send in singular coins to LVA for a die stage revision; there should be EDS/LDS examples to show clear differentiation.
