1882-S lesson bears fruit
Professor Fogie, who recently was amused to learn that I was looking for an 1882-S, gave me a quick tutoring lesson via phone. He suggested if I needed that date I should look for VAM 16A. The VAM Force was with me, because I found this PCGS-65PL example almost immediately. Thank you sir!

When in doubt... don't.

Dennis, when you have a chance, could you please take photo of the obverse designer initial? Looks kinda odd from the full pic. Thanks.

I hope one of these (all different lighting angles) shows what you want to see.

WTG Dennis; Cant believe you caught one so quick-C O N G R A D S
It just happens that way sometimes
I was hearing about 89- 23A then -their it was- a au 58 that i sold about 1 1/2 yrs
later, after finding my ms 62 PCGS naoh. And its SPL-but not deep enough to PL
Both coins from my own long stored inventory- say like 35-40 yr ago

Thanks Dennis. Looks a bit overpolished (maybe to removed clashing) with some pittings.

Great coin - underappreciated in my humble opinion. Pitted die AND acid!

Dennis - I just found an example of this VAM-16a. My coin is the same as yours, well at least it matched your photos.
But I do have a concern in looking at the VAM-16A page. The reverse shown there is different, especially the mm placement.
What do you think?

Neat coin, and a great example of a LDS die repolished to PL.

Wish I could offer some input, but all I know about this coin is Fogie said I should try to find one. Sounds like I should check my coin's mint mark too.

That said though, for me, it's a tough call if I had to choose just one 82s cuz one of the extreme concave obv's like the v35/36/37 in high grade are spectacular when twirling them in-hand but boy is the eye of the 16A so unique looking.
