Purchase this coin last week, these are the seller's photos on eBay (November 2019 for $25.39 US), perhaps a new low for a VAM-111. My D800e is acting up, I'll try to get better photos when and if the coin arrives.

Flat-Chested,

I hate being a buzz-kill but that sure looks like a Vam 77, not a 111. Tell-tale diagnostic is the die scratch in the tail-feathers. Vam 77 has the diagonal scratch, Vam 111 is centered, short and horizontal.

I have a VAM-77, that mm is a slight bit higher and has a slightly different tilt. I wish everybody would post photos of the inner leg areas of their VAM-111, and clear photos of the mm that include the entire D and O of DOLLAR as shown below. Send lines down from the sides of the mm to the D and the O and see that a line drawn on the left side of the mm intersects more to the left on the D, and a line drawn down the right side of the mm intrudes more upon the O (it would be a better to see this when the mm is in better shape and has sharper edges). And I don't see any diagonal tail scratch of the VAM-77. I'll try to make and post some comparison photos today. BTW, this coin comes from a Canadian seller, and it remains in Canada as a national treasure, although some day may go on display in Vegas.

Here is a photo of the mm+DO on my NGC graded and attributed VAM-77... see that the mm is slightly higher and has a pronounced tilt to the left.

Flat-chested … I stand corrected. I've picked two 111's from online auctions and both times I used the MM position to make the call, as I couldn't distinguish the die scratch in the tail feathers from the online photos. What threw me with yours is that "phantom" diagonal die scratch in the perfect position for the Vam 77. Seeing that I didn't even bother with MM positioning.

Mea Culpa and CONGRATS!

1878-S Vam-77 on the left, 1878-S VAM-111 on the right... the VAM-77 mint mark is higher and tilted to the left.
