1878s Doubled RIB
I'm having issues determining the VAM, the 4th right star appears broken, the 6th right star appears tripled. The mint mark is high like VAM-111 but I can't see the VAM-111 PUPS.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB
It could not fit VAM 111. VAM 111 has unbroken 4th right star. Yours is broken. Try VAM 71. It looks to be an engraved wing feather type but the coin is worn well so its hard to determine by pics. Good Luck!
I may not be the best, but I do not know anyone better.

I don't think it is the VAM-71 as the Mint Mark on this coin is tilted further to the left. And, I think the RIB is doubled here.

The reverse may be B2r, used on VAMs 24, 30 and 43.
Re: 1878s Doubled RIB
Quick observation, her nostril looks strange and is that a big dot in the cap fold? Gotta run...

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my.........Ah........Uhm........something, something, something.....

It’s not even close to a Vam 111 or any in its family BTW, it’s been run over & backed up & run over again road kill!

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB
If the RIB is doubled, and if the MM does not match the location of another 1878s with a doubled RIB, then it is a new VAM.

Re: 1878s Doubled RIB
Start by looking at the 4th star broken & R in Trust unbroken crowd
Re: 1878s Doubled RIB
I'm not seeing a Doubled 'RIB'. All the doubled RIB have a complete 4th right star. Vam 6 has a complete nostril and 22, 77, and 111 have a polished nostril. You can eliminate all of these. Do a sort on the B2 reverse varieties and select broken 4th right star and unbroken 'R' in Trust … narrows it down to 39 options.

That’s because it’s not there!

Thanx for all your input, I appreciate it all very much. I'll try to find some time to search the '78 Short Nocks for the coin. I'm "slowly" learning.

Flat, Throw that one back into the pond. It's much easier to VAMize a specimen with more meat on the bones.

The coin displays most attributes of a VAM 43.
