I may be calling these incorrectly, but the way I'm seeing it the 78-S v111 would be the missing winner for 2012. I'm counting all of these for the year the award was given (so v111's Sept. 2011 discovery was the winner at the 2012 VAMthing...)
Rob,
I guess I really don't know how it is counted. Because I did the submission for the 1892-CC VAM-2A back in 2016, and it was awarded VOTY very early in 2017, I thought it was the VOTY for 2016.
This is exactly why I would like to find out the history of VOTY, and get an "official" (or sort of official) list for the VOTY.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

I sent Rob a copy of SSDC Vam E volume 9 issue 9 from 5/24/12 stating “2011 Vam of the year Vam 111.

I have taken a look at the comments above and as a result - made a set called "VAM of the Year" based on the aforementioned conversation. It is not set in stone so no "fan/fecal matter interfacing" should it differ from your recollecting - Just let me know and I will be happy to fix it. I would like it to be complete and correct. I have a 78p v111 and every time I come across it in a box I think "ooooh" 😳... then my brain kicks in a second later 😢

Brent,
Thank you for the list. That is exactly what I was hoping for. Hopefully we can get the rest of the years filled in. I just don't have any idea where to find the information.

Here is the VOTY list so far;

2018; 1879-S VAM-104
2017; 1884-S VAM-11A
2016; 1892-CC VAM-2A
2015; 1924-P VAM-8B
2014; 1882-CC VAM-7
2013; 1890-O VAM-33
2012; 1878-P VAM-85
2011; 1878-S VAM-111
2010; ???
2009; ???
2008; ???
2007; ???
? 2006 ?; 1888-S VAM-13

If anyone can provide more information, please do so.

Brent, thanks again!

I have all the information for these. I may or may not be able to put the list together tonight. There's been some pretty cool ones.

Thanks JB
I was thinking that the 1921-P VAM-31A1 or 2 was the 2007 VOTY, but I may be wrong on that. I will look forward to seeing what you come up with.
GREAT progress!
Thanks everyone!

As I recall, Leroy wanted to make 'scribble scratches' the VAM of the Year for 2007. Since it's an SSDC award, the board actually makes the selection and they opted not to award any VAM that year.

JR,
Thanks for the history lesson. This is why I'm asking for information about the VOTY. It's long before I got into VAMs, and I don't know a lot about what VAMs have been selected. It's getting very hard to improve my focus sets, so I was thinking about trying to work on the VOTYs. I only have two from the incomplete list. But at least it's a start. :)

Let's retroactively make 1921-P VAM 44 the 2004 winner.
(BTW Elaine on Seinfield was/is a hottie.)
When in doubt... don't.

Much of my life revolves around other people's coins. That VAM 111 was one of them.

I remember all of the air time that VAM-85 got. I joined CCF about that time and member Brian1315 posted several times about it. It was quite a discovery given the amount of time elapsed since the prior long nock discovery... :)

And then the 2A is the one that should be the discovery of the decade... Nate was really proud of that one....
