Not being on a popular collecting "list" seriously raises the "who cares?" question for VAM 1J. And the
huge run-up in higher Mint State 1921-D prices since covid (MS64s used to be $100, now they're often over $400) makes premiums a guessing game for just about any 1921-D VAM. Plus, from what I have seen the past two years, there are darn few collectors of 1921-D VAMs in any grade, let alone MS65s where the generic value for the date is what, $650? And even further complicating things is the question of how late a die state is the coin?
Take a look at the attribution page for VAM 1J:

Under "additional photos", the first picture shows what is technically required to be a Late Die State. But photo #3 is probably what it takes for a significant premium. With that in mind, here's what I have in my sales database. I don't know how LDS that $538 MS63 coin was, but I'm going to guess it was the most desirable very LDS version:

1921-D 1J 64 NGC Dec-21 E $350
1921-D 1J 64 ANACS May-22 E $216
