I have an 1878-cc Morgan graded by PCGS as MS64 with a 140-degree CW rotation. The rotation guide states that the 1878-cc Morgan Dollars are typically found with 26 to 106 degrees CW rotation. I am wondering if 140-degree rotation would be considered as an unusual rotation or is it fairly common? I've not found any on auction sites or Ebay with this degree of rotation. Does anyone know what, if any premium this coin could bring or how to place a value on it?
Thanks for any input on this!
Jeff

Re: 1878-cc Morgan with 140 deg CW rotated rev
Great coin Jeff! (I absolutely love it.)
That is an unusually large amount of rotation; most of the examples I have seen were 75-90 degrees. These often come in Mint State grades; I recall seeing one many years ago in a PCGS MS67 holder.
Yes it does have a premium -- a pretty significant one. My guesstimate is double the price of a 'regular' MS64, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were to sell for more than that in an auction.

When in doubt... don't.

Thanks for your response! I love this coin as well and will probably never sell it. It would be nice to know what kind of value it may have when I pass it on to my daughter/granddaughter
Thanks again

I'd estimate roughly double retail, or around 2 grand today
often the crusher of hopes and dreams
