1878-P VAM-163/163A

Post by keilg1 » Tue Feb 08, 2022 5:35 pm

Any sales lately of either the 163 or the 163A - NGC or PCGS between MS 62 and 64?

I happen to love this coin, but am not finding any sales data.

Thanks!

Here you go Gary:
I have nothing, however, for 163A in any grade.

1878 7TF R78 163 64 PCGS Jan-13 CS $350
1878 7TF R78 163 63+ NGC Apr-21 E $195
1878 7TF R78 163 63 PCGS Jun-21 E $181
1878 7TF R78 163 63 NGC Jan-22 E $180
1878 7TF R78 163 63 PCGS Apr-21 E $165
1878 7TF R78 163 63 ANACS Jun-21 E $165
1878 7TF R78 163 63 ANACS Nov-20 E $149
1878 7TF R78 163 63 ANACS May-21 E $143
When in doubt... don't.

Thanks, Dennis.

Not many (32) of these registered in SSDC in all grades - with only 4 for the 163A flavor. The latter only being discovered in 2018 so possibly not surprising, but with the strongly shifted "U" and going back to the mid-1960s, I'd expect the 163 to have shown up more.

I'm happy to have a PCGS 64 in hand as well as an NGC 62. Neither show any crack at the date, however.
