1887 S DMPL AU-58 ANACS

Post by JASONKFLO » Wed Jun 16, 2021 12:03 am

Have been eyeing a 1887 S ANACS graded AU-58 DMPL to buy
I do not have a picture of it but am just curious what they are worth. I see on NGC MS-61 DMPL Listed at 475.00 with the only sale noted at 564.00
any help is greatly appreciated

There is a huge difference between Mint State DMPLs and circulated DMPLs. Some people (me included) consider them curiosities and stay well away from them. I long believed that PCGS had a policy of not giving the DMPL designation to non-MS coins, but I see there is 1 in the pop report. My hunch is it was a mechanical error.

There is no way for me to value the coin, but I wouldn't guess even remotely close to MS61DMPL money.
When in doubt... don't.
