One in XF45 PCI slab attributed and signed by Brian Raines

Another in PCGS slab MS61. Not attributed on holder.

This is a VAM who sales price history is profoundly erratic and inconsistent. And only a handful have come up for sale in recent years. All I'm sure of is the PCGS-61 coin needs to have the VAM attribution put on the holder.

1878-S 22 62 PCGS Dec-13 H $1,175
1878-S 22 62 ANACS Feb-16 E $622
1878-S 22 62 ANACS Jan-09 VQ $323
1878-S 22 62 ANACS Apr-17 E $280
1878-S 22 61 PCGS Dec-09 store $2,750
1878-S 22 61 PCGS Jan-10 E $2,200
1878-S 22 61 PCGS Mar-12 E $1,100
1878-S 22 60 ANACS Jan-11 TT $50
1878-S 22 58 PCGS Aug-11 H $152
1878-S 22 58 PCGS Aug-11 H $150
1878-S 22 55 PCGS Jul-13 H $176
1878-S 22 55 PCGS Nov-08 VQ $169
1878-S 22 55 raw Jan-10 E $103
1878-S 22 55 ANACS Jun-14 E $83
1878-S 22 53 PCGS Dec-09 store $375
1878-S 22 53 ANACS Jul-13 GC $165
1878-S 22 53 ANACS Aug-18 E $109
1878-S 22 50 ANACS Apr-10 E $113
1878-S 22 50 PCGS Jul-13 H $106
1878-S 22 50 PCGS Jun-13 H $66
1878-S 22 50 PCGS Sep-16 E $60
1878-S 22 45 ANACS Feb-16 E $53
When in doubt... don't.

Dennis, I certainly appreciate your research and pricing results. Yes, erratic is certainly a fitting description, but it is what it is.

Looks like the PCGS MS6! would be worth submitting to PCGS for VAM attribution.

The PCI slabbed coin is a little different situation, I am already below what I originally paid for it (what's new with many VAMS), but I would rather see the coin go on auction with a reasonable minimum bid and see if it can't wind up in the hands of a budding VAM collector. As you stated, it is not a common VAM, but it needs to find a home where it will be appreciated.

I would be a bidder on the PCI/Brian Raines attribution if it goes to auction. It would definitely be appreciated. I don't currently have any 78-S Vams in my collection. :)

Will get the XF coin up on eBay by the end of the month. Notice will be posted on the VAMWorld BST section for this 7-day auction.

That's an excellent idea. Was probably at least 12 years ago when I purchased it, and at that time, he stated that he didn't have many of his signed PCI slabs remaining.
