My intention is to ship this out to Great Collections in the next couple of days as several people have expressed interest in the coin. I collect old San Francisco Morgans, I have other Morgans that I could be selling but I decided to sell this old SF Morgan in order to give people an opportunity to complete their sets. I've got a quarter section of non-productive wasteland that I am making mortgage payments on, where there are Bobolinks and assorted other endangered birds making use of the grass for nesting, so I can't cut hay to help make the mortgage payments.

That sounds very FAIR and smart to do , get the most out of the coin and let the people whom need
it BID it up . I will be in the bidding for it . And the 79S rev 78 have gone thru the roof for some of the grades .
I saw a Heritage Auctions MS64 1879s rev 78 that wasnt a truly rare VAM 43 go for 5.76K .
https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dollars ... ion-071515

The Link to the MS64 VAM 43 on Heritage . That coin went on 14 Jan 2109 .

But WOW prices have been going thru the ROOF !!!

Thanks
John

Great Collections received the coin a few days ago, it went on a huge journey from the Canadian Prairies to eastern States, then back to California, normally it travels by stage coach, it must of been exciting. A world traveler. I somewhat regret not using it as leverage to get another 1878s VAM-72 and/or a 1878s VAM-60, it appears neither is as rare.

I sent Great Collections a few coins, none of them came up yet. I think Great Collections is a great way for foreign sellers to market their coins to American buyers... many American sellers do not ship to Canada, I imagine many are hesitant to purchase coins being shipped to them from out of Canada. And their photography is great, they do it all - photography, sales and shipping.

Maybe they sent the coin in for a CAC sticker, or more likely they are just keeping busy, I sent Great Collections a few dozen coins to help keep them occupied, too many coins to list all at once.

I sent two 1879s Rev 78 (PAF) VAMs to Great Collections, neither case was in the best shape, at least one of the coins is gone in for a new case, and at their discretion may send either or both coins in for CAC stickers. I can’t image anybody running an auction house and providing a better service.

AHH
That would make a Big Difference then ,they resent them the PCGS for a new case , That does take some time with
PCGS , I have no idea how long it takes for the Green Bean CAC sticker . So the re encapsulation does take awhile,
since PCGS is really slow . Now it makes more sense to the wait .

Ahhh
My 3 buddies at pcgs
They do an excellent job,
But sometimes they need to speed up
A little,
Now I know why is taking so long to post coins at auction!

Yep I have a Vam56 F-10 at PCGS that I sent in for restoration , It is in a PCGS holder that states cleaned , but
I think it was recirculated after storage for awhile , and it had some oily gunk that I could see from it being encapsulated .
Well I hope to get this one back restored with a regular designation ( AKA No cleaning designation ) . Well its a hopefull try
and maybe I will be bidding on the VAM56 it all depend on PCGS and the restoration . I will keep everyone posted on this
as a FYI . I keep my fingers crossed . LOL , Got to be hopefull , its worth a SHOT with PCGS .
The coin didnt have any striations or cleaning marks , just some old toning that was worn away , I have seen other coins
looking as such and they where Non Problem PCGS coins . LOL . Just HOPING !!!

And Yep PCGS is slow , but still the best . And as always we are like little kids on Christmas and await our presents ( Grades).

I figured out they have a pull down menu that shows the pending coins that are cued to be posted, and this VAM-56 is at the top of the list. The holder is adequate, it has not been shipped to PCGS for a regrade nor gone for a CAC sticker. The issue is that I sent two shipments back to back, they posted the coins from the first shipment while the VAM-56 was included in the second shipment. All is good, everything in time.

Likely it's twice as rare as either the 1878-s VAM-60 or 1878-s VAM-72, should have traded this for the two of them rather than have it sold at auction.
