1878 VAM 196A ANACS MS63 Value?

Post by jrfaust » Sat Jul 30, 2022 1:56 pm

Hello all, was wondering if anyone has data or ideas on how much this V196A is worth. PCGS shows $900  for VAM & Grade. Any thoughts on the real ball park value?
Here's a couple pics of the coin.
Thanks!!!!!

PCGS is nuts, and it wouldn't surprise me if they mistakenly thought 196/196A were 8TF varieties.

My database has very few sales for either VAM, which I think is due to lack of market demand and collector interest more than anything else. I'd be hard pressed to estimate the value at more than $25 above generic 7TF prices, if that.
When in doubt... don't.

The PCGS guide value is pretty hilarious. I recently noticed they attributed a VAM-196 so sent in my MS65+ for Trueview pics and attributing.

I don't believe a VAM-196 or 196A has much if any premium over common.
