Post by iceman » Sat Aug 13, 2022 4:27 pm

Hi All
Just picked up a 1878 CC Vam7A unattributted in NGC MS63 which I think is undergraded .
What is the value on this one ? I cant get a idea on the value . Im not sure if this VAM is a High Value VAM even if its a R5 or 7 . Just would like a idea of whats it worth .

Thanks
John

Great 'pick!
The SSDC Value Guide estimates a 63 at $1,500, with no higher grades listed.
When in doubt... don't.

I usually see this one in XF-AU grades, so an MS63 is a pretty good pick. I wouldn't call it rare in circulated grades, but it probably is in MS63.

Yeah, I used to think this was kind of rare, but it's not hard to find circulated examples. It turns out the pre-clash VAM 7 is much harder to find. But this is still fairly described as rare in mint state. 63 ties the top pop in the SSDC registry. I'd estimate it would bring at least $200 over common for grade. If it got a bump in grade, I'd guess $1000 - 1200. Great find!
