Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
There are five outstanding Admin request awaiting action/answers on the SSDC web site. The oldest is dated 10/23/18. Doe anyone maintain the site anymore?
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
If you're referring to the SSDC Registry, talk to John Coxe (@alefzero).

Fogie has been busy today.
Thanks Fogie!!
Thanks Fogie!!
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
In the beginning things were a bit different, JC was updating regularly.
He did say at one point most of the corrections and new listings will be processed in bulk after supplements come out.
As far as admins go I don't think anything officially has been determined.
The bylaws don't reflect VW 2 or the registry at the SSDC.

Thanks Fogie for taking care of the Admin request on the SSDC web site.
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Sorry, the thing runs well enough that I don't look in all that often and forget to look at the admin requests. Brent (fogie) is good about them when he has the time. Work on a few more features that might or might not get done in time for FUN (days away). It will get expectedly busy in a month or so when Leroy's annual update comes out. We probably should have coordinated a cc: thing with him in real time so we'd have the descriptions and pics for vamworld and the new ones and revisions to process at the registry. But unless we get the heads up from the discoverers, they wait until the update.
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
The SSDC doesn't really have admins. We have a board of directors. We need some folks who will actively participate in a proactive way.
I would say that I have been pretty dejected about things recently and need for some folks to really get it in gear. John Baumgart is always on top of things when it comes to the VAMWorld site. John Coxe is really hard find most of the time, although he always seems to come thru in the clutch. John Roberts is always available for opinions but is well covered with his day to day. Russ James is probably the most active true lover of VAMs in my opinion. He is fully inspired and active with the SSDC. Fogie is an avid collector and a solid behind the scenes man when it comes to the Registry. Crae Morton is absolutely solid with the Treasury. I don't see or hear from the rest of the board much through the year.
I am really interested in writing 2 books and I'm at a point that I could really begin if I could get a positive response that Whitman will be on board to publish. I've had VERY good talks with them, but I seem to lose traction each time we wait for spline approvals. I'm sure I can and will get somewhere with this, but the time will have to be right.
We seem to have a few gripers out there that don't really put forward much but the grumbling. We would welcome true positive help if you are willing and able.
We are scheduled for a board meeting at FUN on Friday morning 8:30-10am Room W303C.
Mitch, Scott H., you guys are welcome to attend.

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
I need a phone # where I can phone in, if possible.; Grant has my number though. I may have to drop off or put the phone on mute a time or two, but will do my best to participate.
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
WOW! That explains a lot. Ash, is the board meeting open to all members? Is there a dial in number to the meeting or is skype or another software product being used for the meeting?
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Conference call capability will be rather limited. In the past, people attending remotely would be called by people in attendance and we'd have to keep track of who is on whose phone. I don't know if we can easily set up a more sophisticated conference call by then and get directions out. I would say that if you want to listen in, send me and Ash a PM with your phone number, and someone at the meeting will call you.

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Thanks ASH; For the great response to this SSDC question. You are a one of a kind special gentleman on all fronts
and i wish i had the chance to spend time with you. my post here was not to bitch but rather to give
one members opinion of what may be needed to keep things moving forward properly /gaining
quality members.
JB is a unreal asset - as are the guys yo mentioned Our gratitude /thanks to all who volunteer
to keep things up and positive
unfortunately- I personally have never been a ASSN or committee joiner etc. Yrs ago terrible experience
with a homeowners assn broke me from participating in groups etc. it has kept me on outside where
believe i am best at making informed decisions.
With that said i am a total morgan/vam nut lover and would be interested in helping SSDC or VW
in any other ways other than direct participation. I have to many things going on with my Australian
business ventures and U S timber and land holdings,

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
When will you know about the phone number and if a software package will/will not be available?
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Assume for now that we won't have an actual conference call number for now. Send me or Ash your personal number and we'll have someone at the meeting call you and put you on speaker. If we do get a dial-in conference call set up, we'll inform you before Friday morning. If anyone has a favorite conference call web site or software package that we can set up in a free and easy manner, let us know, as I don't normally use this kind of software. If anyone wants to set up the conference call using the platform of their choice for 8:30 ET Friday, let us know, and then let everyone know how to connect to it. Keep in mind the meeting seldom gets rolling at 8:30, but we'll try.

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Ash
No reason to list me as a person who is welcome to come to an open meeting.
Or is it a closed meeting just for board members?
I sincerely hope you were not referring to me as a griper who does little for the site.
If it is than you are sorely mistaken and disconnected.

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Mitch, I am just curious. Have you ever attended a coin show and interacted with the folks like JB, JR, Fogie, Ash, Coxe, Crae, Doc, Brian, Dennis, Big John, Ray, Pete, Lewis, Birch, Russ, Tim, Rob, Pat, Ben, Dominic, Tom, Smitty, Mark, Roger, Fey, Jack Lee, Mike, Robert, Mike C, Phil, Dave B, Mike A, Kenny, Doug, Jason, Bill, Tim C, Eric, etc. in person? Sorry if I missed someone who I have run into.

I have not
But I have spoken to many of them on the phone
What is your point?

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Some folks that may want to dial in may have to take a 1/2 day or full day off of work. So if at all possible, can the status of a dial in number or a software link be answered by Thursday? The answer to the phone number availability (or software link) could just be an update to this post or created a new post

Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
Mitch, my only point is that based on my experience, perspectives like yours change when you sit down with folks face-to-face and talk. On the phone is not face-to-face. Coin shows and the personal interaction have a way of making things more understandable. A lot of folks find the socializing more rewarding than cherrypicking.
Re: Does SSDC Have an Admin Anymore?
To answer your question, yes. I will reiterate, however, that if you want to listen in, give me or Ash your phone number and worst case, someone at the meeting will call you at 8:30 ET Friday.PacificWR wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:52 pmSome folks that may want to dial in may have to take a 1/2 day or full day off of work. If anyone out there has used conferencing websites and wants to set up a meeting, do it. Let me and Ash know, and we'll publish the instructions for connecting.
