1897-O Die Pair

Post by LateDateMorganGuy » Fri Jan 04, 2019 11:51 pm

This is the coin I showed under a previous thread about last acquisitions of 2018.

It is a 1897-O and it has a near date (some would call it low or slanted, or both), a mint mark placement set high and tilted right, and doubled left wreath leaves and above AR (another story for another time). Given the base attributions, it fits nicely into the VAM-6 VAM Classification if VAM-6 is treated as such. It certainly does not match the same die pair of the VAM-6A/6B.

But it does appear to have a crack above Liberty's cap with a displaced field. What do you think?

Wow. That sure does appear to be displaced. Interesting!
When in doubt... don't.

Reminiscent of the 1883-O VAM-19A. TF429803. Including the cracked BUS.

Of course the call about a break with field displacement is up to Leroy. But with the coin in hand, it looks like it to me with similar listings for more or less the same thing. Here is another angle.

The deflection looks stronger than many displaced field breaks, especially those that are on worn dies close to the rim.
