Goals for 2019

Post by davidkclose » Sat Dec 29, 2018 2:21 pm

I would rather aim high & not make a goal rather than aim too low & make it easily. I did not make my 2018 goals for a variety of reasons, so it is time to start planning for 2019, with the FUN show being a good place to start. Perhaps the most challenging for me will be to:

1)complete 75% of listed Peace VAMs in the Registry. If I can complete this, it will be a good year.

Reached my goals for 2018.

1. Completed date set of Morgan Dollars (except 1895-P).
2. Cherry picked an attributed 1880-CC VAM-4 GSA (MS-64 or better) in the wild. Not at a coin show, E-bay or an auction. It had to be at a B&M Coin Gallery.
3. My first DC from Carson City. Mission accomplished with the 1892-CC VAM-14 & VAM-14A .

In the planning stage for 2019.

I didn't reach my 2018 goal but will renew it. I am still wading through my Peace dollars and have found another 9 DCs so that makes me happy. I also started to liquidate some nice VAMs along with many duplicates so I can just concentrate on certain areas. A good thing about my liqudating is that I am taking pictures of many for sale and storing the pics so I can help getting full coin pics up on pages that don't have them. Because there are so many VAMs, if you run across listings missing full coin pics shoot me a PM and let me know which ones and I will try to fill in with what I have. I also encourage anyone who has VAMs of listings missing full coin pics to post them. It is not difficult now so jump right on in and learn how. Hope everyone has a great 2019.

Well Doctor, I like most of us did not meet our 2018 goal, and now I don't even remember what it was. (no evidence)
But looking forward my goals are:
1. Finish getting photos and others item from Leroy for my research material and then have them professionally place in binders.
2. Try to find 5 VAM's that do not have pictures and provided them.
3. I guess throw in a dozen new DC's.
4. TBD.

Hmmm, well gee golly gosh, I think I'll try something new this year and see if I can track down a 1921-S VAM-29a once... wonder how that'll go?
Outside of that I guess I'd like to have a little higher quantity of fresh picked acorns this year.

Outside of VAMs what I'd like to do in 2019 is take most of 2018, crumble it into a little ball, dump gas on it and burn it into oblivion! I had a fair 2018 (didn't have an airliner land on my head, didn't lose any limbs, didn't get divorced, etc.), but it isn't a year I'm gonna look back on with much fondness.
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

I met my 2018 goals. Somewhere in 2018 I decided to add the 78-CC set to my overall 78 set. I managed to eke into 4th spot by year’s end. My 2019 goal will be to finish the 78-CC set. I also want to reach 38,000 points with my 78-S set, which will be real tough. As for my 78-P set, i’d Just like to fill any hole😳. Happy New Year!

Response to a rodent;

So 2018 was a bad year, well I got the crude twice, three UTI infections, two surgeries, 1st doctor change my meds, liver enzymes are messed up, 2nd doc changed my blood psi meds. Had two days of almost blacking out. Got burned at work Friday on my left knee right at the sciatic nerve. Natural it is the side that a have a pinched nerve in my back and my left leg goes numb from my knee to my big toe. And the biggest pain in the rear is in the keystone state.

I'm going to retire at the end of June, so I guess my goal for 2019 is to find something to keep me busy that doesn't get me into trouble with my wife.
And, of course, I'll keep trying/hoping to find a 1568 Scotland 30 shillings Ryal ("sword dollar") for sale somewhere in the world that isn't museum quality and priced to the moon.
Frankly, I expect to have a better chance with the retirement thing.
When in doubt... don't.

By the dawn of 2019 I would like to have my "complete Morgan VAMs" set up to 68% (a 2% increase). That is about 97 VAMs that I do not already have. Fortunately I have a good number of VAMmers helping here and there.

I wasn't actively buying/collecting/attributing anything in 2018 (or 2011-2017 for that matter) until November when I decided to dust off the collection and take another look, so I have no VAMming goals from '18 unfulfilled. I did get my first discovery since 2010 last month, so that's a plus.

My coin goals for 2019 are to learn the ways of the Darkside and to get familiar with Peace Dollars in general. I've got a a nearly complete Morgan Date/MM set spread across about 400 attributed VAMs, needing only the 85CC, 93S, 94P and the impossible 95P. I may try to knock off one of those (probably the 85CC) this coming year, but I think I will use whatever coin budget I have to grow my Peace collection. I have the complete date/mm Peace set and have grown it to about 60 coins at this point. The Peace Dollars were always just a side set for me, but I think they will become my focus going forward.

So my 2019 goals will be:
1. Learn as much about Peace Dollars as possible
2. Enjoy the hunt and find as much interesting stuff as possible
3. Continue to pay as little as possible for whatever I get. (I love dumpster diving in junk buckets ;) )
4. Have fun.

Long-term goal is to finally learn how to grade Peace Dollars.

Of course, that all takes a back seat to my life goals for 2019: to be a better husband, father and coach and to exercise more and get my health back on track.

Happy new year, everyone!
I swear, someday I will learn how to grade Peace Dollars!

1. Get to 90% of 1878p VAM's this year. Currently sitting at 80%. It's going to be quite a challenge.
2. Complete my T100 set. Either my low ball or regular. 7 coins needed.

A VAM-14.11 would take me a long way in both sets. Missed out on 2 this year.

Finish off my ECM set. I have two holes.
1. 1878-P VAM-34A
2. 1889-P VAM-23A

If anyone wants to help me out, send me a PM. :)
I know, not much chance of finishing this set off. But I can try.
