1882-P VAM-1H??

Post by andywoj00 » Tue Sep 19, 2023 6:39 pm

Please follow the link below to some hi-res pics of subject coin. Need input as to if this coin could be classified as a VEDS of a VAM-1H. The D pitting is not as intense as shown on the VAM page, but there is a tiny bit. All the other markers are there.
Thanks in advance....Andy

Actually a later state likely, not earlier. Striking and wear are deteriorating the chip.
I’m gonna leave it there for now.

This marriage is something else before and something else after the chip…

Stay on it Andy

Your epiphany will come.

Doug....At this point, I'm a bit lost as to the epiphany, but I'll take a stab at it.

My coin appears to be at the stage just before the VAM-1E series manifests itself on the obverse. VAM-23 for the reverse comes into play somehow, but not sure how as it looks like the reverse is an early stage of V23. Is this the die marriage?
If I'm off, point me in the right direction. I like to learn, but don't want to play too many guessing games.

YES, nice work!

I am missing a couple pieces to that puzzle still but you got the just of it.

I have too many 23 & 1 E to count anymore.

One reason I say a lot:

Coins, coins, coins coins….. coins.

Remember I’m tracking dies, not varieties, per se

Thanks Doug. @Albannach PM me to discuss if you have a RAW 1E2, no collar clash, you'd like to part with. Would like one to go along with the 1E1 I have.
