HUGE bargain at Heritage last night

Post by DHalladay » Thu Sep 14, 2023 1:56 pm

A PCGS MS62 1878 7/8TF attributed as VAM 44 (but is actually a 44A, and a very nice looking one IMO) sold last night for just $7,200 including buyer's premium. I emphasize "just", because the last MS62 that sold a year ago (also by Heritage) went for $19,800 and MS60s have been in the $7K-$9K range.

Huge congrats to the new owner! I hope it's someone here on the boards.

Wow.

I had not been following them for some time now, but recall the 44/44A pricing pretty chaotically in the market. It seemed to have gone from an arguable king of VAMs to not being very promoted.

Simply yet another huge confirmation that collectors with money
to spend are not buying vams even at huge discounts, as prices
continue to fall each month. Very sad for sellers, as blood baths are
seen continually. Even i feel the pain on select vams i paid decent
money for 8-15 yrs ago. My saving grace is vams from my old
bulk purchases many yrs ago, that were bought raw and cheap cheap

Sure feelfor those collectors who got stuck with super high dollar vam
purchases - I know of 1 stellar member here who has lost a ton of $$
unfortunately. Hobby my Ass. Its simply no longer fun as many great
members has exited vam collecting

Lets prey prices stop sliding and recover over time

I think the biggest problem with this listing is that it was a Wednesday weekly auction vs a VAM specific auction. The coin was only on HA for a little over a week with very limited visibility. I am confident the results would have been different in a VAM specific auction.

Mark hit the nailon head-as non specific heritage auctions of vams
allow for disasters like this one
Sellers must beware and list/consign in heritage pl/dmpl/vam
periodic auctions. Next one is DEC i think. Even then prices are pretty
low with doing quite well

I guess the question then becomes will this sale serve to tank the perceived value and therefore prices realized in future auction appearances of v44s. I guess only time will tell.

Wow! I'm glad I didn't see it, or I would have been tempted to upgrade from my AU55!

ANACS V44 MS 60 Sold on GC tonight $3300 plus BPhttps://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/1 ... S-60-Toned And looking at it a little closer it might have been a 44A as well.

I completely missed it. I would have been a bidder at a few levels higher. I need to check more often. Congrats to the buyer. Jim
