Looks interesting, but I'd want to see additional examples before consenting to a certification

Intriguing, indeed. I would call the exact coin pictured FS-501, since it's the coin in the book, but I would be reluctant to call anything else in low grade FS-501 unless I could get a good look at the discovery piece alongside it and was convinced it wasn't machine doubling on the mint mark. This is an example of a coin that would not get listed until a higher grade corroborating specimen was found if it were a VAM.

FYI - The 1906 D Barber Dime Overmintmark D Over O Discovery Piece was attributed and listed by John Wexler on his website in 2009. Furthermore, Bill Fivaz personally created overlays to disprove any would be doubters.
The Discovery Piece is slabbed in an ANACS holder 4688930 with designation 1906 D/O 10c WOMM-001 graded AG 3. As can be seen on Wexlers OMM listings, strong remnants of the O mintmark are obvious inside the D and outside the D towards the west.

John Frost, president of the Barber Coin Collectors' Society. has photographed this OMM Discovery Piece and includes reference about this coin in his educational seminars at coin shows attended.

Apparently I liked the piece better in hand when I saw it almost 14 years ago

The image on the Wexler site is more clear than the CPG pic

Eight years have passed since the last CHERRYPICKERS' Guide Sixth Edition Volume I on Half Cents through Jefferson Nickels was published and released in 2015. Hopefully, the CPG on Dollar Coins will be published in the near future.

Roger, you put in a lot of hard work for this DC and the one for the elongated ray. In addition, you overcame a lot of obstacles from the so-called experts that doubted you. One even retired when he was proven wrong. It is sad when they cannot admit they were wrong.

Congrats on a job well done.
