1921-S help needed

Post by DHalladay » Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:06 pm

Attribution materials (scribbles & die crack guides) are really skimpy for this date, so I've come up empty trying to attribute this coin, which was an unexpected part of a 1921-P roll.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The only crack I can find is a very long one; running from the reverse rim below R in DOLLAR, up through the entire length of the right wreath, and into the left wing below A in AMERICA:

There are a couple of interesting vertical gouges from the left and right ribbons:

I'm presuming this is a late die state example of something, due to what look like old, heavy vertical die polishing areas around the bow and in front of the eagle's neck:

When in doubt... don't.

The scribbles – what there are, that is – are frustrating. Besides being weak and few in number, they are located in multiple places and were unusually difficult to photograph. It was impossible to get them all in one photo, and I had to move the position of the light source for each one:

hmmmmm , this is harder Mr. D ....... scribbles on 1BV are close but that is about it for that plate ,,,,

Vertical Gouge/polish line in wreath bow on v1CE looks to be a match , but not seeing anything else to confirm either one of these blind guesses .

last one for a minute might be 1CR 2nd specimen, but you are gonna need MItch or fogie or one of the big guns cause I'm not sure at all about this one ,,,,
